reboot freezes

Try booting with the reboot=b kernel option? Some machines require that.
If yours does, then please file a bug at
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.15/+filebug
and attach the output of 'dmidecode' to get this made automatic.
