I am not too fond of always only giving the CLI solution. Gnome/Ubuntu
developed the tools for a reason. 

Giving only the CLI versions might be more convenient on a mailing list,
and work in all k/x/ubuntu distros, but most of the GNU/Linux beginners
I know gain more when I show them the GUI tools for their administrative
tasks first. Given the right pointers, they can figure them out for
themselves and become self-sufficient and at home in the new environment
pretty quickly.

While when I show them a few CLI interaction with the package manager,
they still can't figure out others. Not everyone wants to learn this
stuff.

In my ideal little world, each of those questions would be answered, "in
the CLI do this, in the GUI do this or that" :)

(And yes, this is the Ubuntu list, and Ubuntu comes with Gnome as
default, therefore I see nothing wrong in giving the Gnome default
answers unless the OP specifically asks for kubuntu or xubuntu, in which
case I try to shut up :)
