is an xgl server running? do a
ps axf |grep X
in a terminal and see. it should output something roughly like:
ps axf |grep X
4960 ? SL 54:37 \_ /usr/bin/Xgl :0 :0 -fullscreen -ac
-accel glx:pbuffer -accel xv:fbo -auth /var/lib/gdm/:0.Xauth -nolisten
tcp vt7
4981 tty7 SLs+ 1:12 | \_ /usr/bin/Xorg vt7
-auth /tmp/.Xgl-auth-Ch9zN8 -nolisten tcp -dpms -v -s 0 :93 -terminate
as you can see, Xgl is running. if it says X, instead of Xgl, ther GL
accelerated server isn't running, so there nothin for compiz to connect
to.
