questions about framebuffer and nvidia drivers

I just did a dist-upgrade and rebooted to clear some ram, except when X
restarted it failed and left me in a CLI. Since X failed with 'module
not found' i assume it means i don't have the relevant package.
What confuses me about this is that i have linux-686 installed, so i
thought that it would make sure the modules were there?

Second part of the email is about framebuffer - when i tried to start X
using it X failed. Does this mean FB is no longer in the stock kernel/X,
or do i need to do something to get it going?

Lastly (sorry, there is one more),
i ran dpkg-reconfigure xserver xorg, and its added 2 extra input devices
- both touchpads/stylus doovers. is this a feature or a bug?
