SSH connection refused

Hello,

I'm trying to rescue some files from a computer. I've booted with an
Ubuntu Live CD and want to scp the files to my desktop for safe keeping.
This is what happens:

$ scp files.tar.gz daniel at 192.168.0.18:
ssh connect to host 192.168.0.18 port 22: Connection refused
lost connection
$

I don't understand. I can ping my desktop (192.168.0.18) and I can ssh
to it from other computers. What is it about the Ubuntu LiveCD that
prevents me from using ssh?

Best,
Daniel.
