These dependancies seem a little crazy to me (Abiword, Gnome, Gaim...)

It will merely remove the 'gnome' meta package. That package doesn't
contain anything - it just pulls in other packages to give you a nice
GNOME experience.
It nearly didn't change from Breezy.
