This is true indeed. The wiki search function is ... not quite useful.
Just as a tip which might seem obvious: when looking for wiki pages I
usually take a guess at a key word then enter in the browser something
like
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hardware
This usually gives a "This page does not exist yet" message, but also
often a list of "similar names". In the case above the list is quite long,
and may contain some useful information about various hardware questions.
It includes the URL quoted by Ari, for example, and many others.
For instance, there is a commented table of printers at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsPrinters
Scanners at:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsScanners
and so on ...
