JOY - re:NOT HAPPY after Breezy upgrade/install

Folks,
Thanks to a great bit of assistance from Peter Garrett my network
problems have been resolved.
I am once again a happy Ubuntu user...
For those who were wondering I was not stupid enough not to do a back
up before starting the update. My home directory was intact. I make it a
rule to always keep my additions and changes to a released system in a
separate directory (file system on another computer). That way all I
need to do is do an install and apply any changes.
The source of the problem was some information was missing and/or
incorrectly specified in /etc/network/interfaces once that file was
corrected and the external name servers added to /etc/resolv.conf, a
reboot was all that was required.
This message is being posted via my newly updated Breezy system.
Thanks for all the responses they were helpful. If I can assist anyone
in the future rest assured I will try to do my part.
