1) Is anyone able to view www.c-span.org's C-SPAN with the
helix-player from the package of the same name? I tried it and got a
popup saying the stream required capabilities only realplayer could
handle.
2) Is anyone able to view C-SPAN with realplayer reasonably well?
As during my try with Debian (I'm now using kubuntu and running
firefox, etc., in a 32-bit chroot), the standalone realplayer starts
up, and while it's shaking hands with C-SPAN's Real servers, the menus
behave normally, but as soon as it starts streaming the menus work
_VERY_ slowly and the player soon throttles down from 100 bps to 32
bps and the video is horrible, updating only every few seconds. Sound
is OK except for being relatively low volume.
(I guess my next try will have to be running a pure 32-bit OS and if
that shares the problem (which I'll guess it will), I'll have to
return to FreeBSD and try Linux again in 6-12 months.)
Thanks.
