That's gnome screensaver, not xscreensaver.  try invoking xscreensaver
from a terminal and see if you don't get what you want.  You may have
to disable gnome screensaver first.

I'm pretty sure you need to have xscreensaver installed, too, not just
xscreensaver-gl which supplies particular extra screensaver hacks, not
the executable.
I have:
xscreensaver
xscreensaver-data
xscreensaver-data-extra
xscreensaver-gl
xscreensaver-gl-extra
and it all works flawlessly.
