apt-get dist-upgrade ends with error

I have a very similar problem.  The only difference is that actual
package that was being updated (I think it was something like
xfprint....).  Well, I decided to go ahead and reboot, and only ran
into chaos.  My display manager won't start now, yet it keeps trying
over and over which makes it hard to do anything from the terminal. 
Neither do I have any networking support turned on.  So I am completely
hosed for now.



I guess my point is, don't reboot unless you know what you're doing
(which I apparently didn't).]
