Hmm. On Breezy:

$ less /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf-custom
/etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf-custom: No such file or directory

So not just "no comments" but even "no file" ...

I know, it's April Fool's day ! That must be the problem!
