It's only useful if I can use it.  And I'm not critizing in an angry 
negative way.  There seems to be some disconnect somewhere over this 
easy to fix issue.  Let me ask some questions:

Who is Ubuntu for?  Is it geared to home Windows users and the root 
issue is an attempt to protect the user from himself?  If so how is he 
protected when all he has to do is enter his user password?  Is it for 
the experienced? Then why do so many experienced users get caught by 
this?  Is it for the small home or office network?  Then the installer 
is basically playing root with a user account unless after install he 
sets up a seperate account for himself and then what do you have?  The 
usual Linux root/user split anyway.

It's like Ubuntu markets itself to newbies to Linux but structures 
itself for Linux adepts.
