booting with 'single' option

I'm not sure about this being normal, but at least it is not very much out
of the ordinary. When you have physical access to the machine, there are a
million ways you can get in without password.
Come to think of it, the "normal" thing to do would be to ask for the root
password, which isn't available in Ubuntu. So I guess it is normal after
all.
Anyways... If you are interested in more securing your system, you should
install a bios password (to prevent booting from CD, floppy or usb) and a
password in grub (to prevent people from adding "single" to the boot
string), and install a lock on your computers case (to prevent people from
removing the harddisk and putting it in a less protected machine).
