Where are the minimized windows?

Sounds like you might be having some problems with the screen
resolution. Do you have both a top and bottom panel? If not, try
System/Preferences/Screen resolution and fiddle around with the
options a bit until you see both the top panel (the one with the
menus) and the bottom (the one with the minimized windows).
