Hi,
I didn't see any further replies on forum's archive, so I'll bite. :)

Not sure from the previous posts, how well you know networking under linux, so
this might way too simple, but have you checked what reads in you
/etc/network/interfaces file?
Usually that statement means the system doesn't know what to do. There should be
some rules for interfaces you are trying to bring up, here's mine for connecting
wirelessly at home network:
iface eth1 inet dhcp
wireless-essid xxxxxx
wireless-key xxxxxx
It states that whenever I issue 'sudo ifup eth1' I want to connect to a dhcp
server which gives the client all information I need to go online. Those
wireless rows are there to identify the correct access point, you need to
replace those multiple 'x' letters with correct info of your access point.

I have no idea whether this should give further evidence of a problem that lies
elsewhere. I'm sorry, hopefully someone wiser will give you answers if that's
the case.
