xscreensaver lock image really hardcoded?

I can't find a definate answer with google, so I'll ask here.

Is the xscreensaver image/password box really hardcoded into xscreensaver?

I'm trying to pretty up my computer, and I can't figgure out how to
change that. Would I really need to recompile xscreensaver just for
that?
