Language display problems with Arabic/Urdu/Pashto/Farsi

Hello :-)

Using Hoary and its Firefox until recently we enjoyed reading BBC in 
the mentioned languages. After some update recently the characters 
partly are replaced by square boxes containing digits and letters. To 
me they look like UTF-8 codes. It sure makes reading difficult.

I myself could just ignore it and wait until some more knowledgeable 
fix it. But then there's my wife; not willing to ignore what to her 
was a cherished fact and am being told to "fix it", full stop.
I'd love to. Just don't know how to go about it.

Anybody out there to help me with advice so Arabic again looks like it 
should without funny boxes ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
