Sound settings alway being reset.

Hi Everyone,
I am running Hoary on my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop and for some reason, it
will not keep my audio settings when I power down.
The sound works fine, but when I boot up, the Master volume and Headphone
volume are both muted and set a 0.
I don't know what to say beyond that! Does anyone have a clue as to what is
or is not going on?
