pppoe not connecting upon bootup

I've run pppoeconf as root and got my dsl working. During this process I 
elected to allow it to connect to this dsl at bootup. However it seems like 
the only way I can connect to my dsl upon rebooting is to go through the 
pppoeconf process again. I try running pon dsl-provider to no avail. Am I 
missing something? Is there not some way to set this up to connect 
automatically? I'm running Breezy. Also, there seems to be no visual cues as 
to whether the dsl is connected or not. What panel or app can be run to 
monitor this?
