Clock runs fast in Ubuntu!?

I'm hoping someone else has experienced this... my computer's clock
runs fast in Ubuntu, and I need to keep resetting it (sometimes as
much as 15 minutes fast in 3 hours). I've also checked to
"periodically sync with timeserver" but I think because I use dialup
that is not working. It works if I manually "sync now".
I hope someone can explain why its running fast.
I have an AMD Athlon 2500+, on an Asus A7N8X-X (NVidia Nforce2
chipset). Nothing is overclocked.
Thanks for any ideas!
-Steve.
