Alex,

I had sent a mail a couple of days ago as to how to write .fdi files, with a 
couple of sample files. It looks like you can ask hal to mount it right, 
since there seems to be no problem with detecting the drive in the first 
place. 

/etc/hal/fdi/ is where your fdi file should go. I am attaching a sample 
which I use for my ipod, and another which i use for my harddrive to this 
mail. Hope it is helpful in some way...
