I was wondering about the viability of using some of the new Ubuntu
software utility programs designed for the less experienced user?
Have not seen anything on the list about them but they would certainly
be a boom to a novice like me and for doing a quick install on a
machine. I am not looking to start a debate on the current system but
just trying to see what direction Ubuntu is going as it grows and to
see if it is worthwhile to keep up with these type developments.

Easy Ubuntu is an easy way to make Ubuntu usable in few minutes. This
is a beginner's tool using a graphical interface.
Easy Ubuntu allows you to:
* Add extra repositories for installing a lot of additional
software. By default it activates Universe, Multiverse, Extra. Added
but deactivated are Backports, Wine, PHP5, suPHP, KDE 3.4.2.
* Install multimedia codecs for reading all videos, musics and DVDs.

There is also autopackage, which was discussed here months ago, and
klik - point-and-klik software which I am more hesitant about.
