You'd best avoid trying to convert lossy formats to other lossy formats. If
you own the song, you could just download an MP3 version and get better
quality than this conversion process.

Well, you could have bought an iRiver, which plays OGGs ;)

KDE programs will run just fine under GNOME, if there are no good GNOME
alternatives. Not that I use GNOME, myself.
