The original topic is very interesting to me, though it seems the
postings in this thread are going into the merits of IM in small
business. So include it, and if the business doesn't want it, they
don't have to use it!
What I'd like to see is a sub-distro similar to Edubuntu, where you can
plug in workstations and POS terminals easily with LTSP. Plus:
- full double-entry bookkeeping
- Postgresql backend
- The Horde or similar email/workgroup setup
- Multiple businesses/domains
- rsync offsite backups (maybe with rsnapshot)
- content management for websites
- optional cd with remote access tools for Linux, Windows, and Mac
- import tools for accounting and contact data
Should be easily installable by a neighborhood geek with help from the
business owner to provide specifics. A "wizard" would be very helpful
for installation, perhaps a web-based one that generates a downloadable
installation script.
A target installation for one to thirty employees, also suitable for
mini-mall type setups with several small businesses under one roof with
central management.
What do you think?
