Right way to add custom xmodmap rules?

Hi all,

I am relatively new to linux, and am trying to learn as I go...

I used:
1. http://iew3.technion.ac.il/CC/Comp_news/muo-may02/xwin/xkeys.html
and
2. http://iew3.technion.ac.il/CC/Comp_news/muo-may02/xwin/xset.html#scripts

as guides to try and add functionality to two of my special keys.

Doing:
xmodmap -e 'keycode 174=F13'
and
xmodmap -e 'keycode 176=F14'

does indeed allow me to use these keys to later define shortcuts.

However, how do I now have these keyboard mapping modifications take effect
everytime I log in using gdm to gnome-2?

I have already created a file .Xmodmap with the following two lines in it:
xmodmap -e 'keycode 174=F13'
xmodmap -e 'keycode 176=F14'

I don't know how to proceed further. I would be grateful if someone can help
this confused soul :)

Thank you,
Carthik.
