Try 'sudo laptop-mode stop'. That did the trick for me. As the name of the
command indicates, it's geared towards saving energy so you can operate longer.
You can restart the mode simply by typing 'sudo laptop-mode start'.

I cannot tell where it could suddenly begin out of the blue, it was on my system
right from the beginning.
