Hi!
My name is Fahad and I am from Pakistan. I am new to Ubuntu and I have a
modem installation problem.
Under windows my modem 'Conexant ACLink 56k' is installed on com3.
I have run Lsit modem app from the linuxant website and following was the
output.
========================
NUMBER OF MODEMS FOUND = 1
MODEM #1:
PCI CONFIGURATION INFORMATION READ:
VENDOR ID : 10B9
DEVICE ID : 5457
SUBVENDOR ID : 103C
SUBDEVICE ID : 0850
REVISION ID : 00
DEDUCED INFORMATION:
VENDOR NAME : UNKNOWN
DEVICE NAME : UNKNOWN
SUBVENDOR NAME : HEWLETT PACKARD -- HTTP://WWW.HP.COM/
MODEM TYPE : UNKNOWN
WINXP INBUILD SUPPORT : NO
==========================
Linuxant says that
Note: To make sure that it is a Conexant chipset being used on your modem,
the Vendor ID for Conexant
will be 14F1 or 127A (Former Rockwell).
I have checked my numbers in the list they provided but couldn't find any.
What does the last line in the output 'WINXP INBUILD SUPPORT : NO' mean.
Does that mean that my modem is not a winmodem?
Under Ubuntu 5.04, in the Device manager window, in the Devices pane there
is the following entry 'M5457 AC'97 Modem Controller'.
Does this means my modem is recognized?
On clicking this entry;
Device tab
Vendor:ALi corporation
Device: M5457 AC'97 Modem Controller
Status: Status
Bus type: PCI
Device: Unknown
Capabilities: Unknown
PCI tab
Vendor:ALi corporation
Product: M5457 AC'97 Modem Controller
OEM Vendor: HP
OEM Product: Unknown (0x0850)
I have set the pppconfig too and when I run sudo pon it say 'unrecognized
option '/dev/modem' '
It seems to me that my modem is recognized but is not configured right. What
to do? Please help me.
Thanks
Fahad Fateh
