USB 2.0 Network Ubuntu-WinXP

hi,

well I just bought a USB 2.0 Network cable to connect a notebook running  
Ubuntu with another one running WinXP. It works just fine when both PCs  
are running the same OS, WinXP and WinXP are able to access each other  
same as when both notebooks are running Ubuntu (via the usbnet module).  
But I can't get them to recognize each other when running different OS,  
which is after all the reason I bought that cable. Is there any way to get  
it to work? I really NEED it :) [btw: I can't use an ethernet LAN, because  
it has no onboard LAN and the only PCMCIA slot is being used by a USB 2.0  
card - hence the reason for a USB network]
