Try this:



du -ks
/usr/share/doc/python2.4-opengl/doc/xhtml/glutShowWindow.3GLUT.xml.gz 

4      
/usr/share/doc/python2.4-opengl/doc/xhtml/glutShowWindow.3GLUT.xml.gz



It should just show 4, since you have 4k blocks.  If so, no worries...



Create your backup like this, and you shouldn't have any more problems
with your backups (or that 1 file it hangs on):



tar cv*S*pzf /var/backups/backup.tgz / --exclude=/var/backups

--exclude=/proc --exclude=/lost+found --exclude=/mnt --exclude=/sys
*--exclude=/dev*



* Note the 'S' and '--exclude=/dev'
