I don't know what your problem is.
In case nobody gets the answer to your question, you still can install
the cvs version (see
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/dload.html#cvs), which is quite
easy, and is more optimized for your computer.
If you do it, you'll need to "sudo apt-get install cvs" before.
