I remember "back in the day" when subbing and unsubbing to a mailing
list was more difficult. There was no web interface to mailing lists and
there were no instructions or URLs at the bottom of each message. You
actually had to remember it or keep your introductory messages from the
list maintainer.
All the changes were supposed to make things easier and (most notably)
help the clueless figure some of this stuff out.
From what I can tell the impact has been negligible.
Or maybe it's been better than I thought but hasn't been noticable due
to the larger number of people on mailing lists these days.
Who knows. All I know is, it's good for a laugh (if I'm in a good mood
that is).
