afaik it makes a little more sense to do this here
/usr/share/applications/defaults.list
and change the line for pdf into : application/pdf=AdobeReader.desktop
(this is on breezy with acroread from multiverse, on hoary with
ftp.nerim.net's acroread this file needed to be included afair, so YMMV)
then acroread should be default 'everywhere'
