Chris,

I don't know if this is good news or bad news... Last night I set my
XP virtual machine memory to 96MB... and it still ran very quick. I
opened a 10MB excel sheet worked in it and still no noticeable
slowdown.

You definitely have some sort of problem that could be hardware. Too
bad I have no other ideas!
