Earthlink DSL failing to see Ubuntu

That looks like an address which is probably your modem/router, IIRC?
That's OK, if the modem/router acts as a DNS server by effectively
passing DNS requests to your ISP. Alternatively, you could find the
addresses of the DNS servers for your ISP and configure manually using
the Gnome network config tool.

A quick dns lookup here suggest the name servers for earthlink.net are
207.69.188.197 and 207.69.188.196, but I'm guessing your ISPs domain!
