continuing breezy sound problems

First, a thank you to everyone that's already tried to help resolve my
ongoing sound problems. I don't know if this is symptomatic of anything,
but I was playing with the multimedia sound selector and when I test the
default sink which is set to ALSA/alsasink, the test runs and I can
cancel without issue. When I test the default source which is set to
ALSA/alsasrc the applet crashes when I cancel the test. Of course
there's no sound in either case. if I change either setting to ESD they
both can be tested and canceled without incident. Again, no sound. 

For reference, I'm running a Sound Fusion CS46xx sound chip.
