Emacs and the mouse wheel

I couldn't make it work :(
This is what I put in my ~/.emacs :
(autoload 'mwheel "Mouse wheel support")
...and emacs starts without any errors.
But when I try to use the wheel, this is what I get:
"mouse-4 is undefined"
(or mouse-5 etc)
What did I do wrong? :(
