 If there is nothing in the home directory you really want to save you could 
try the drastic route. In you home folder from a terminal ls -a look for the 
one that is .openoffice.org etc, however it is worded.
Then delete it with rm -rf .openoffice etc. Next open you openoffice again and 
see what happens, there could be a borked doc in that folder that is causing 
the problem. Note this will delte the whole folder and all its contents so 
use with care if you've saved something.
