freezing problems

I had the same problem on a newly built machine with a Radeon 9200 card. It
religiously froze after a long xscreensaver session. It turned out to be a
dodgy memory DIMM that had passed the Memory test with flying colors.

After replacing *everything* one-by-one (Hard drive, power source, CPU/FAN,
motherboard, etc), I changed the DIMM and the freezes stopped. Fortunately,
it was a warranty-for-life Kingston.

Try a different DIMM, see if that works.
