The issue I'm having is the fact that through synaptic, when I go to add
extra repositories with the check marks, it doesn't allow checking the box
for Multiverse. I also don't see what would be considered a "multiverse"
repository in /etc/apt/sources.list like I did with Hoary.

do you have multiverse enabled?
the multiverse isnt backports, it is "restricted+universe."
