Have not tried it on ubuntu, but under debian I could do that. I need to
use oed to learn some pronunciations which worked well under wine. If
only we could get a good 'talking' dictionary under Linux.
Well now. Do you know of the very inexpensive and very fine
product Random House Unabridged Dictionary? I'm telling you
it is a better (programmatically) dictionary than the OED
(but for the 315,000 words) could ever hope to be. I am still
disappointed by OED but as far as data goes, it's everything.
Sounding ambivalent so I'll move on...
The RHUD is twenty-one bucks and has great audio features
beside being a fine fine program -- it's a steal. But like
you said about the OED, I am saying that I have never tried
it on GNU/Linux at all -- but I'm looking forward to it.
