System freezing on logout

He cant use the ps ux because his screen is blanked, all processes are
dead and his computer is just not responding, except to the power off
button. I have the same problem shutting down and restarting my Ubuntu
Breezy, and it seems to be not a xcompmgr issue. Earlier I have used
Warty and it didnt have this problem. Hybernating though seems to
complete the shutdown process.
