Is there a way to setup Chinese language input

Try apt-cache search pinyin.  Even if pinyin isn't the input method you're 
after, that should help you locate the right kind of software.  The three 
main, modern ones are IIIMF, SCIM (for KDE, download skim as well -- it's not 
in Ubuntu :( ), and UIM.  UIM and SCIM are the ones that seemed to work best 
for me.
