hi, the binaries for bittorrent arent named bittorrent-XYZ ;)
you should look for something called:

	btdownloadgui

oh, and since i also lost track on this thread:
why do you want to use bittorrent from outside of ubuntu?
if you open synaptic and search for 'torrent' you will find

	bittorrent 3.4.2-3ubuntu7
	- which is already installed by default. this includes the
standard handlers. so gnome btdownload can work.

	bittorrent-gui 3.4.2-3ubuntu7
	- which adds the gui you're looking for.

if you can't find bittorrent-gui, you should enable universe in your
repos. on how to do that look here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AddingRepositoriesHowto

and a really cool place to discover the whole ubuntu-experience is
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UserDocumentation

have fun
