Splash Screen question

I hate jumping in on someone elses problem, but:
When I do all of the above, I finf that the splash screen does start,
and looks great. After a short while, however, I get dumped back
to the old-school whitelines. This always occurs at the point where
my filesystem is checked. There are no errors reported on screen
or in logs. Any ideas?
(Also, I don't think fb is working correctly in Breezy Install. It looks fine
in LiveCD, not on the install.)
