Have you looked at the Ubuntu wiki?  It contains all sort of user
documentation, done by the community for the community:

backports are usually there to bring to older Ubuntu installations
applications found in the latest Ubuntu version (thus the name
"back-port").  Since you are running 5.10 already, you don't need the
backports, and they actually don't exist yet for Breezy since the next
version (Dapper) doesn't exist yet in the repositories.
