Problems with apt-get update

Ubuntu Users,

	1. Situation
I've just recently installed Ubuntu, and I'd like to install a variety
of multimedia and other applications.
I read in another thread in this list that a place to get
straightforward instructions on installing applications was here:
	http://www.ubuntuguide.org

	2. Problems
When trying to run the suggested commands, apt-get would return errors.
I'm wondering if this is because the web page refers to Ubuntu version
5.04, and I think I have version 5.10.

	3. Questions
Is there a way I can make the instructions on the web page apply? Do I
need a different source for instructions?

	4. Reference
The error output from apt-get looks like this:

W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems
E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old
ones used instead.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
