hi!
well there is a HIGHLY experimental opensource driver that works with x800
cards, that might be your bet...it can be compiled from mesa cvs and dri cvs,
you will also need an xserver-xorg cvs build that has experimental driver
support. though I am not resposible for what happens with your hardware. this
driver can damage it!!!

i use this driver on a mobility radeon 9700, works fine, opensource, AND i've
got composite working ;)
