no sound in breezy

The output of 

cat  /proc/asound/cards        and

 lsmod | grep  snd                and

 lspci -v | grep -i audio

might give the sound gurus something to start on :-)

Also, I know it sounds obvious, but I've fallen into the trap myself of not checking if sound levels are  muted or zeroed. <sheepish grin>

Have you run

alsamixer

in  a terminal and looked for the dreaded "m" ? ( use "m" to toggle muting etc)

Something to go on amongst this lot I hope... Oh, another idea: if you have a hoary live CD lying around, and sound works when you boot it up, maybe a comparison of the commands above might give some clues?
