You're not supposed to type the [...] bits. They indicate optional
parameters, so any of the following commands would be reasonable:

  sudo debootstrap breezy /var/chroot/
  sudo debootstrap breezy --variant=buildd /var/chroot/
  sudo debootstrap breezy --arch i386 /var/chroot/
  sudo debootstrap breezy --variant=buildd --arch i386 /var/chroot/
